NJPW Wrestler of the Month: August 2020
Minoru Suzuki
Key Matches:
NEVER Openweight Championship: defeated Shingo Takagi
The temporary shutdown of New Japan seems to have done wonders for the grandpas on the roster, as the two oldest members - Yuji Nagata and Minoru Suzuki, both 52-year young, have won two out of the three Wrestler of the Month honours since action started back up. August was Suzuki’s turn.
His big match - and only single’s match - of the month was his semi-surprising NEVER Openweight Championship victory over Shingo Takagi at Summer Struggle in Jingu. This was a stellar match - in the four star range - and showcased what Suzuki does best - intimidate, land hard strikes, and hit innovative submissions. He also had some solid work in multi-man tags as a part of his Suzuki-gun team throughout the month. His run as NEVER champ should be interesting, and hopefully we get him in the G1 also (we better).
Honourable Mention: Shingo Takagi
